Rinne an tAire Gnóthaí Eorpacha, Thomas Byrne TD, ceiliúradh ar an nGaeilge labhartha san Aontas Eorpach inné mar chuid de Sheachtain na Gaeilge.

Reáchtáil an tAire Byrne cruinniú fíorúil le hoifigigh a oibríonn in aonaid na Gaeilge in institiúidí an Aontais. D’fhreastail an tAire Stáit Gaeltachta agus Spóirt, Jack Chambers TD, ar an gcruinniú freisin.

“Bhí áthas orm ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar Sheachtain na Gaeilge trí labhairt leis na hoifigigh a oibríonn ar feadh na bliana ag déanamh ateangaireachta, eagarthóireachta agus aistriúcháin go Gaeilge ar théacsanna agus cruinnithe AE. Tá sé an-tábhachtach go n-aithnímid anseo in Éirinn an obair thábhachtach atá á déanamh sa Bhruiséil agus i Lucsamburg lena chinntiú go bhfanann an Ghaeilge i gcroílár obair an Aontais.

Ba iontach an rud é cloisteáil ó aistritheoirí, ateangairí, profléitheoirí, cúntóirí teanga agus dlítheangeolaithe Gaeilge faoina ról chun an teanga a chur chun cinn ar fud an Aontais Eorpaigh. Tá deiseanna iontacha gairme ar fáil do chainteoirí Gaeilge agus spreagfainn aon duine a bhfuil suim acu i ngairm theangeolaíoch cuimhneamh ar iarratas a dhéanamh ar ról in Institiúidí AE.”

Bhuail an tAire Byrne le foireann agus mic léinn ó Ollscoil Leipzig sa Ghearmáin freisin a bhfuil staidéar á dhéanamh acu ar an nGaeilge mar chuid de mhodúl ar an Léann Ceilteach sa Bhaitsiléir Ealaíon i dTeangacha Mionlaigh na hEorpa. Freastalaíonn thart ar 60 mac léinn ar an modúl Gaeilge gach bliain agus faigheann sé maoiniú thart ar €25,000 ó Roinn na Gaeltachta go bliantúil.

“Bhí ríméad orm bualadh le foireann agus mic léinn Ollscoil Leipzig. Is breá an rud é an grá agus an spéis atá acu sa Ghaeilge a fheiceáil. Bhain mé an-taitneamh as a bheith ag éisteacht lena scéalta faoin gcaoi ar chuir siad spéis sa Ghaeilge, a n-eispéiris sa Ghaeltacht anseo agus an Ghaeilge a fhoghlaim mar Ghearmánach. Ba cheart go mbeimis an-bhródúil go bhfuil staidéar á dhéanamh ar an nGaeilge in Ollscoileanna ar fud an Aontais Eorpaigh agus theastaigh uaim ceiliúradh a dhéanamh air sin i rith Sheachtain na Gaeilge. Tá súil agam bualadh le tuilleadh mac léinn Gaeilge in Ollscoileanna eile san Eoraip amach anseo” a deir an tAire Byrne mar chríoch.
