His Excellency Mr. Marijus Gudynas, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania presented his Letters of Credence to President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin on Tuesday, 8 December 2020.
The ceremonies was conducted in full compliance with Covid-19 public health guidelines, including physical distance requirements.
A native of Kaunas, Lithuania, His Excellency Mr. Marijus Gudynas began his public service as the Undersecretary, Kuanas District Municipality before assuming the duties of Chief Specialist, European Integration Division, Ministry of Public Administration Reforms and Local Authorities of the Republic of Lituania. Beginning in 1999, his duties as Special Attaché for Regional Development, Mission of the Republic of Lithuania to the European Communities brought him to Brussels. Following his service in Brussels, His Excellency served in various positions, including Minister Counsellor at the Embassy in Belarus; Head and later Deputy Director, then Director of the Belarus Division, Eastern Neighbourhood Policy Department for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Consul General at the Consulate in Chicago (covering 28 States); Ambassador at Large, Eastern Neighbourhood Policy Department then Director, Department of Lithuanians Living Abroad. Ambassador Gudynas is married to Dr. Gintarija Gudyniene and they have four children. His Excellency, Mr. Marijus Gudynas presented his credentials as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ireland on 8 December 2020.
Senator Pippa Hackett, Minister of State for the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine, with responsibility for Land Use and Biodiversity, represented the Government at the ceremonies.
The following were also present: Mr. Art O’Leary, Secretary General to the President; and Mr. Brendan Rogers, Deputy Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs.
