Minister of State Colm Brophy T.D, with responsibility for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora, issued the following statement:
“I am deeply shocked by the brutal killing of a vehicle driver for GOAL on Wednesday, 24 March in the Benishangul-Gumuz region of Ethiopia. The driver and a GOAL staff member were travelling in a vehicle that was clearly marked as belonging to a non–governmental organisation. I offer my deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of the victim.
“This brings to seven the number of humanitarian workers killed in Ethiopia over the past year. That is seven too many.
“Ireland will continue to support GOAL in its vital work in Ethiopia.”
