The Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne T.D., will represent Ireland at the informal General Affairs Council meeting hosted by the Slovenian Presidency in Slovenia.
At the meeting, Ministers will discuss the EU’s post-Covid-19 resilience, in particular on how to strengthen the Union’s resilience to crises. Ministers will also be briefed on the Slovenian Presidency priorities, with a focus on the work of the General Affairs Council.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Minister Byrne said:
“At the meeting, we will focus on strengthening the EU’s resilience to future crises. As we recover from the current crisis, we must also prepare for the future and meeting the challenges to come, including the climate and digital transitions as well as the threat posed by cyber-attacks.
“Improving the EU’s overall resilience is one of the major themes of the Conference on the Future of Europe now underway. As part of Ireland’s national programme for the Conference, I am meeting with representatives from various communities and groups around the country to hear their views on the future direction of our Union. Now, more than ever, we must come together to find innovative solutions as we work to build a stronger and more resilient Europe for the future.”
