NAYPYIDAW – Diplomacy in Ireland – The European Diplomat has just learned from the Foreign Press Association and Overseas Press Club that US journalist Danny Fenster, who only last week had been sentenced to 11-years in prison and faced further charges by the repressive military junta that took over Myanmar and ended democratic rule in a coup d’etat earlier this year, has been freed.
Former US Ambassador to the United Nations, Bill Richardson, obtained Fenster’s release while visiting Myanmar on a personal diplomacy mission.
Diplomacy in Ireland – The European Diplomat had been working throughout the weekend with our colleagues in our professional journalist organisation, appealing to leaders throughout the world to plead for Fenster’s release, and that of all political prisoners held by the Myanmar military junta that now controls the country.
