Notes for journalists:

  1. For 170 years, World Expos have provided a platform to showcase the greatest innovations that have shaped the world we live in today. Expo 2020 is the first World Expo to take place in the Middle East North Africa region.
  2. Ireland is one of over 190 countries taking part in Expo 2020 Dubai. The Department of Foreign Affairs is leading Ireland’s participation in Expo 2020 on behalf of the Government of Ireland.
  3. The Ireland pavilion, designed by the OPW, is fully completed. The overarching theme for our participation in Expo 2020 will be: Island of Inspiration – putting creativity at the centre of human experience in the 21st century. Through our pavilion and programme, we will show how creativity drives human connection and community, on a global as well as a local scale. There will be a focus on Renewal, reflecting our commitment to post-pandemic international solidarity, looking at equitably shared economic recovery, global health and wellbeing, and sustainability. The full details of Ireland’s participation will be announced in the coming months.
  4. The agenda for the Global Media Briefing can be found here.
