His Excellency Mr. Mr. Stanislav Vidovič, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, presented his Letters of Credence to President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin on Tuesday, 8 December 2020.
The ceremony was conducted in full compliance with Covid-19 public health guidelines, including physical distance requirements.
His Excellency Mr. Stanislav Vidovič began his career as an academic on the Faculty of Social Sciences – Assistant for Political Theory and Theory of State before joining the Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency as Head of Analytical Department and Documentation, with duties as Principal Advisor to the Director of Agency before rejoining the private sector as a lobbyist and public affairs advisor to a major news organisation. Joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2003, he served as Head of the NATO Unit before taking up duties as Deputy Head of Mission at the Mission of the Republic of Slovenia to NATO, then as Head of the Security Policy Department before being promoted to the rank of Ambassador to the Slovak Republic. His Excellency returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Head of the Department for European Policies before being named Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His next posting was as Ambassador to the United States of American and non-resident Ambassador to the United Mexican States, Republic of Panama, Republic of Costa Rica and Caricom. He is married with one child. His Excellency Mr. Stanislav Vidovič was received by President Michael D. Higgins as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to Ireland on 8 December 2020.
Senator Pippa Hackett, Minister of State for the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine, with responsibility for Land Use and Biodiversity, represented the Government at the ceremonies.
