Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne, TD, will speak today at an online event hosted by European Movement Ireland to mark the beginning of Portugal’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Minister will speak alongside Portugal’s Ambassador to Ireland, Miguel de Almeida e Sousa.
The Minister will reaffirm Ireland’s commitment to working constructively with the Portuguese Presidency during its six-month term. He will also provide an outline of Ireland’s key EU priorities over the coming month.
In advance of the webinar, the Minister said:
‘I welcome Portugal’s ambitious Presidency programme. I am looking forward to working with my Portuguese counterparts over the coming six months, and would like to wish Portugal the very best as it assumes the Presidency at a significant point in the history of the EU.’
